PPC Management
Pay per click advertising simply paying for targeted adds online. When you do a search in google, these ads show up on the right hand side of the page and sometimes above the search results. Ads are written by advertisers and are displayed when certain keywords or phrases are searched for. Each time a person clicks on the ad, they are taken to the advertiser’s website, the advertiser is then charged for that “click”.
Pay per click advertising can be a profitable way to increase sales and leads (if done correctly). Here are some of the benafits.
- Its Quick – You can set up a campaign in 30 minutes or less. It can take weeks or even months to get into the organic search results depending on your competition.
- Its a great way to test – You can get immediate results. These metrics can help you determine what works and what doesn’t. Testing and tweaking can be performed and your ad can be perfected to maximize every penny you spend. Compare that to the yellow pages.
- It can help you find your “money” keywords – Its not hard to figure out what keywords are searched for often but when you are planning your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy how do you know which keywords will result in buyers. Targeting keywords with your paid ads will tell you which keywords will produce the most buyers and help you build an SEO plan.
Pay per click (PPC) advertising should be a part of every business owner’s internet advertising strategy. Unfortunately, for some setting up and managing even a small pay per click campaign can be complex and time consuming. There are several areas where the novice advertiser often runs into problems.
- Google Rules – There are several unwritten rules that Google wants everyone to comply with. If your ad doesn’t fit the mold you will pay way to much or even risk it not being shown.
- Split Testing – Every ad should be split tested constantly. This means that for every ad there should be another similar ad. The performance of these ads should be compared regularly and the under performer should be replaced with a new ad.
- Keyword Research – If you are already using Adwords I guarantee that you are leaving important keywords and keyword variations on the table.
- Conversion Tracking – Often times business owners have no idea whether a dollar spent on advertising results in a direct sale. Online this can all be tracked and accounted for.
- Sending Visitors to Your Home Page – When you do this you are wasting your money. If a visitor on your website doesn’t get their question answered within 8 seconds they hit the back button. Every ad should direct to a page that specifically answers the question the visitor has asked.
- Tools – There are several important tools on the market that help you create and refine your ad campaigns. These tools (software) are expensive and can have a steep learning curve. Most of the time it just doesn’t make sense for the small business owner.
